In 2020 I had what felt like a brilliant idea: an immigration SaaS platform. I was sure people needed it. I was an immigrant myself. I'd watched friends struggle with the paperwork. The pain was real.

So I did what most first-time founders do. I went straight to building. I hired developers. I spent serious money. I worked nights and weekends for nearly two years putting it together.

What I didn't do was talk to a single paying customer first.

When we launched, almost nobody bought. The market I imagined didn't match the market that existed. I shut it down.

That failure cost me twelve months and a lot of savings. But it became the most useful thing that ever happened to me. I went through two startup accelerator programs — Tech Ready Women and Rare Birds — and became completely obsessed with one question: how do you test demand before you build, fast and honestly, so you never waste another year on the wrong thing?
